Convert2DXF Windows Application
« on: September 20, 2016, 07:54:10 PM »
Here is the first alpha release of the Convert2DXF windows application for converting PDF files to DXF.

Please read the readme.txt file in the zip for instructions on how to use the application. If you have any issues with the application please let me know here in this thread.

Currently there is no installer. You simply need to extract the contents of the zip to a location of your choice and have .net framework 4.0 installed which should be on your system by default. If you don't have the dot net framework 4.0 installed, you can install it from here. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851

I have more features planned which includes reading the text and images from the PDF and inserting them into the DXF file.

I am open to any feedback you are willing to provide.

Thanks
John

Excellent work!

One minor issue, with the bird house plans it saves the page as a drawing object.

Yeah, I ran into that this morning when I tried to cut out a birdhouse for my son's cub scout project. I've noticed this on some PDFs but not others. I'm not sure why the page boarder is coming in as a path but I'll have to figure out what is going on there.

Cub Scout project gets Dad with laser cutter!!!! What happened to old rusty hand saw? Are you going to 3d print and laser cut the pinewood derby car or does that job get done on a CNC mill?

You know, you have to evolve with technology right? LOL

The cub scouts are making bird houses and since I came across a design for one the other day I figured I could cut out some for all the boys to put together. Unfortunately the cub scouts will have to resort to doing it the old fashioned way lol.

My wife reminded me this morning that they were doing this project tomorrow night. I tried to get something cut out this morning but I ran out of time before I had to go to work so she and my son made one from scratch.

On the plus side, I got to use my app :)

I would use the cnc mill for the body. Turn the wheels and axles on the cnc lathe. Cut the body lines on the laser. 3D print a driver and wheel pants. OH!, I would probably need a file in there someplace and a screwdriver!

If we had adjustable Z figured out you could do the body in the laser.

LOL!

It would take longer to setup the CNC and 3D printers than to use the belt grinder to get a derby car done. But there is more than just building the derby car at stake!

My grandson's pack has an Adult division. All kid's entries go through an anonymous inspection process to eliminate the "older" kids cars. I guess they know about you guys.

Here is the latest version of the windows app.
Convert2DXF Windows App

I fixed the bug that was drawing lines for clipping paths. This was reported by Zax in which the conversion was drawing a box around the page border of the PDF.

Great. Thanks for the fix.

I will do some more testing but it seems to work great.
