My thoughts after building and testing my 3w engraver
« on: October 07, 2016, 12:52:59 PM »
The box was allot smaller then i thought when it came i was shocked a little.

It came with a software disc with drivers and bendbox 3.7.99
installed both no problems on my windows 10 laptop

even though it lacked written instructions the photos in the manual helped allot.
it was fun to build and was fairly easy really,  everything lined up and went together well
few tiny adjustments to the motor pulleys to center the belt and get good tension and i was all set

ran the software change the port, did some tests and wallah i was burning and making smoke!

to be honest nothing bad to say, for the cost and power and build quality im happy 100%
now if i need to replace things like board or motors that's ok its all DIY and i like to tinker so i will play around with options as well.
i do like the fact it works with DXF files easily since my old k40 did not in that crappy moshidraw software
benbox isn't high tech but its doing it job as far as i can tell. so ill use it to learn settings then move up.

so that's it, i wont bore anyone with the same old pics or vids, ( accept my test burns lo ) but im gonna go play around on it, not sure how i am going to sleep tonight,
my wife said don't u start grabbing random stuff around the house and burn them lol,  ( she read my mind)

Those should work. Some report using .2v and .4v. Keep an eye on the driver temps and the stepper temps. Mine are in that same area.

ok cool seems my board looks more generic then most i see on here, like no jumper under the arduino for firmware version signature etc.

i wanna install a 12volt fan to help cool them as well, seem to be ok for now but short runs is probably why

not even sure if i will be able to set it up for T2 laser

Once adjusted properly they seem to run reasonably cool. The fan is a better Idea for blowing the smoke away from the Laser beam. I am using a 40mm X 10mm to blow smoke. Works fine. It is down at the controller end of the machine and moves enough air to keep the smoke away for the whole frame. Mine is only an A5 size.

For yours I would extend the wires and have it ride on the gantry. Or use a larger fan.

That is what my machine is sized for, it will take a full sheet.
Laser: was an A3 2.0w TTL L6 Z axis now 2'x3'
OpenBuilds ACRO 510 w/ 2.0W TTL laser Cohesion Mini Z axis Homing switches
K40 Cohesion Mini 60W LightObject LPS
          80W Red-Black 500x700

cool is simply a subjective state of mind
