ABS (Acrylonite Butadiene Styrene)
« on: October 16, 2016, 03:25:11 AM »
Has anyone cut this material under 3mm thick?.
I understand it needs high laser pulses to cut it properly (and decent ventilation!).
.
Lasers are wonderful machines..not ONLY  can they cut a finger off BUT  they can also cauterise it at the same time.....

It cuts well on my CO2 but I haven't tried it on the diode. I generally use the CO2 for cutting and use the diode for engraving.

My guess is it won't cut clean (melting) but with adequate ventilation you could give it a try.

I cut the cover controller that comes with the laser kit. It cut pretty clean. A little rolling at the edge.
I have the 2.5W unit.

Isn't that Acrylic? Or maybe you're talking about something different to what I am thinking.

It's probably Akrilik or some other hybrid they made after reverse engineering the material :-\

ABS....usually white or black..the stuff they use in railway modelling or other forms of modelling & sold by PLASTSTRUCT.
and EVERGREEN and a few others.  It is usually easy to cut with a craft knife or scalpel.
