I have an email that my L6 clone boards with footprint for both Nano & Mega have shipped from China. Will be happy to supply blank boards for evaluation (assuming that they work).

I'm sorry Lob, I've no idea about segment or block buffer, to answer you No I've not change any code except cpu_map.h and some relevance files.
May I ask what is the benefit of increasing it?

-parnz

They had to cut back the buffers on the Nano/Uno boards. The Mega has plenty of room for buffers. If you look in;
https://github.com/gnea/grbl-Mega
config.h you will see that they decided to increase those buffers. Default is 10 segment and 36 block buffers. In real world performance on small files I have seen no difference in speed with Nano sized (16 block and 6 segment) in 1.1d on the Mega. For more complex command strings these larger buffers can make a big difference. The main reason they are moving to the Mega boards is to have increased storage. The Nano/Uno are just too cramped for them to continue development on those platforms! They also increased the TX buffer in 1.1d as they found the buffers were being starved. I did not check to see if those changes are in gnea/grbl-mega. I will have to take a look!

There were other changes to the mega config.
#define LINE_BUFFER_SIZE 256  // Uncomment to override default in protocol.h
#define RX_BUFFER_SIZE 256 // Uncomment to override defaults in serial.h
#define TX_BUFFER_SIZE 128

This line is not mentioned in gnea/grbl-mega. I believe they moved it up to 256
#define EEPROM_LINE_SIZE 80 // Uncomment to override defaults in settings.h

I have a miniMega...where can I read up on this new format?

@ggallant571 is probably right. @Zax had to fix it to get 1.1c/d working on T2. He is running with it adding things like real time overrides and such. He also found the documentation for it I believe.

OK, now I see what you mean. I've never understood the purpose, you've got the laser right there and can see what it's doing ;D

Haha its because some of us are scatter brained and we forget exactly what we are burning and how much more design is left!  Seems like alot of work for nothing though since you will eventually see how much is left when it is done.  Maybe just a timer to tell you how much longer to expect.  I know when you load the gcode it give you an estimate.  I always end up walking over a few minutes later and trying to remember how much longer it should have.

The only other thing I think could be cool as a simulation is to be able to run the gcode with the laser off.  Then you could turn on the low power laser to see exactly what you will be cutting at full power.  Im not super anal so I dont use a square when placing my pieces so every now and then my engraving is slightly off center I either kick myself for not being more careful centering it or pat myself on the back for remembering to use a scrap piece before going for the money shot... or is it money burn?

If I were brave I would just go change them instead of using the defines in config to override them!

I changed all the values except EEPROM in settings.h. They were all easy to change.

#define EEPROM_LINE_SIZE 80 // Uncomment to override defaults in settings.h
I could not make heads or tails out of how to change it.

The status messages have changed, and importantly the buffers are reported as "available" bytes and not "used" bytes. Since the latter required you to know how many blocks were made available when it was compiled.

The new format "Bf:15,128" means Grbl has 15 bytes available in the motion planner buffer and 128 in the Rx buffer so the sender can upload 128 where before it meant it was full. If BCL isn't aware of this change it is most likely starving Grbl.

I wonder why the problem is with the mini-mega but not the full size Mega. The Nano with 1.1c also has some problems. I tried to get into the 16U2 last night see what it's settings are. I wanted to make sure it was at 115200. No luck. I will have to see how to get into it by ICSP.

I planned on supplying blank boards to John, Richard, & Allen figuring the assembly procedure needs verification and supplying populated boards to Ralph & Zax for evaluation.

I am putting some laser modules together for Ralph and Zax. When the boards are ready, we'll have a complete solution for them to test with.
