Title: Building a larger frame for my A3 Pro
Post by: wveagle81 on December 19, 2018, 09:56:17 AM

Ok, so I've been doing small pieces for a while now and it's been fun and hugely
satisfying. The standard frame the way I have it set up can do pieces of approx
11" x 14" but now I want to expand the size of my frame so I can do much larger
pieces, and then I'll build a box to hold the whole thing but that's another project.

I found another thread which talked about buying rails from OpenBuilds.  HOWEVER
what I'm looking for is a parts list that I can use to expand my engraver to 1000mm
(3+ feet) square using the existing A3 Pro parts as much as possible.

What do I need other than 5 pieces of rail and longer belts and cables?  Can I
reuse the corner and side plates, and laser carriage?

This is what I'm looking at for the rails.  Is this the correct thing?  Do I need to thread
the holes for the existing screws? (

Yep, looks like that's the correct profile of rails.  I upgraded mine, didn't do the x axis, just the y, to a 4' rail.  I had to tap out threads in the rail, but used all the existing parts from the A3.  You'll obviously need the longer belts and wires.  If you haven't already, add cable chain to manage the wires, with the wires as long as they need to be they'll constantly be getting in the way.
