Title: I cant print grayscale
Post by: Redajawad on January 20, 2020, 04:40:26 AM
Hi
I bought this router from ali Express
#Aliexpress Your US $2.00 in coupons are here!
https://a.aliexpress.com/_sOno8v

Its benbox 3.799
I try to print images and grayscale
But it make only black result
So can I use t2laser software
And did my router support it
Because in documents say don't change firmware
So what can I do
If yes plz give me links and the way to upgrade it
Thanks

I download the software and connect it but nothing happen
As I read I must upgrade hex file
So iam afraid to do this before your answer

The firmware in the controller translates commands from the host PC to the motors and laser module. For most of us on this forum the protocol used is GCODE and the specific translation firmware is GRBL. Most of of the controllers that the utilize the Arduino Nano as the CPU use a common pin-out for motor and laser I/O pins along with a mixture of pins dedicated to limit switches. The GRBL source code is readily available and can be modified to fit your particular machine.

The host software needs to run a GRBL compatible GCODE generator. T2 is an excellent tool for etching wile BCL stands out for cutting applications. There are a dozen others with slightly different features but very different levels of support (I have to association with either).

I would suggest you purchase an Arduino Nano (or 2) and load generic GRBL firmware. This was your original  firmware stays intact.
Unplug the laser and see if the motors behave. If they do then try the laser. Another possibility would be to purchase a "standard" controller board at about $25US.

Once the basic functionality has been verified you will most likely need to do some tuning of the electronics and learn how to prepare images for your specific environment. For me, this was the most challenging phase.

Hi
Thank you
I am sorry
i am new to this world but have some experience in electronics so can you explain what is Arduino Nano and how I add it and did my controlor board didn't Support grayscale so I need to change it
I search and find like this (mana se laser board)
And what the modification I need
I attavh photo for my board

That is an older non-TTL board, I don't know if it uses D11 (PWM) or D12 (non-PWM). You can see in Benbox what pin is used for the laser control.

If it is D12 then no you would only get on or off control of the laser, but T2Laser offers dithered and velocity modes to achieve a pseudo grey scale output.

The firmware depends on the board, if this is D11 then you can use my Grbl 1.1e DEFAULT and then will get grey scale (perhaps not great because of the non-TTL laser module), but if it is D12 you would have to use my Grbl 1.1 Non-PWM firmware (still better than the benbox firmware).

Hi Zax
thank u
Sorry but how can I know if it is D11 or D12
Also can i update your firmware without problems (I mean is it compitable with my router)
And if I try T2laser can I return to Benbox
Thanks

You can run T2Laser with the Benbox firmware, some features won't work but it will at least test your machine.

In the Benbox parameters it will show 11 or 12 for the laser pin.

In theory you can flash my Grbl 1.1e DEFAULT and use T2Laser, then later go back to the Benbox firmware (it should be included with the software).

Hi Zax
In Benbox parameters it shows 11
I install your T2laser  grbl 1.1e to my router and it works
I try to print grayscale but it didn't print that
Only black
I attached image for output
Another question
If my board not support that
Can I change board and plz advise me which one is good and supported for future
Thank you

That looks like grey scale to me, probably just need to increase the feed rate a little bit.

Make sure laser min is 0 and laser max is 255 (if using my firmware and parameters).

some woods do not respond linearly, you really only get 2-4 shades

It looks like chipboard, probably about as bad as it gets for grey scale. MDF is another that doesn't work well due to the resins.

I would suggest Birch, Alder, Maple or other quality wood ply. They have fine grains and will burn evenly.

Hi

i also tried some gray scale pictures without good success.
Is it possible (how to do) a file for a test pattern/map with power and speed?

Like attached picture?

Here are 2 G-code (nc) files you load into T2Laser. They are 10 to 100% power and feed rates from 200 to 2000 in 200 steps.

The first is a full 100 x 100 grid with all power and feed rate options. The low feed rate and high power may over burn so be careful.

I have also included a reduced height and truncated (faster) version that I typically use on my 1.6W and 2.5W lasers.

These can easily be modified to use different feed rate ranges, just search and replace.

Hi,

thank you for the files.
I  try to open your files. But my g-code viewer show me just blue line. I can't see the difference yelow->blue.
It is completely blue. Looks like no power and speed changes inside the file

To my knowledge there is no concept of color in gcode. It is primitive instructions to activate motion and tool operations. What your tools do to view it varies 100% by the application. Are you using T2 to etch?

That's because this is a manually modified file I created, it's like a standard grey scale and velocity mode job combined. I also manually changed the header which screws up the viewer.

Hi,

i tested your g-code file yesterday. It looks not very well on cheap ply.

Other Question: which software did you use to generate the g-code? Or is it a manual created code?

thx.

I used T2Laser to generate the G-code for power and then manually added the feed rates for each row.

Okay.
I understand.

You use a gray scale picture as source and add additional fade rates manually.

Yes, exactly.
