General Discussion / Control board differences?
« on: April 10, 2019, 11:41:37 PM »
can someone tell me the differences between the various eleks boards? L1 l2 l3, now i see mana se boards around.
I have an old eleksboard l1 with weak laser button, i replaced the drivers (years ago) with good quality ones because i have custom  ungry stepper motors and it works just fine, however i'd like to buy a backup board and I am little confused!!
I also have a new, never used ttl laser took from medical equipment and i would like to play with it.

My laser module is exactly this one:

Can you tell me if eveything is okay? i am not really an electronics expert.

General Discussion / Inverting axes via firmware
« on: January 27, 2017, 03:51:16 AM »
Hello, we have build a very big engraver 4mt x 1mt, we need now to invert the axis so that x will be y and y x, it's possible to do that via firmware without swapping the cables? I tried to mess with $2 and $3 but without success.
We have also build a custom pcb to power two 1.8a steppers because one single driver wasn't able to give enough power.

T2 Engraving / Dxf execution queue
« on: September 09, 2016, 01:32:49 AM »
Hello, a friend of mine created a svg file which i converted to dxf and imported on turbocad for some edit (mostly to the fix position and size)
I want to optimize it because now the "execution queue" order is a mess and it take double time to finish a piece.

So how I can change the order? it seems that the machine follow the last drawned object by queue

Thank you

General Discussion / My setup
« on: June 09, 2016, 09:31:54 AM »
Hello lasermaniacs : >
I just finished to setup my "engraving workspace", a camera inside the box to check what's going on and some ventilation.

I still need to install a honeycomb bed and an air pump to blow away debris and extinguish flames.

I'm curious to see your setup and ideas! ty

General Discussion / Some benbox modifications
« on: June 05, 2016, 04:05:59 AM »
Hello guys, here some modificaitions to my engraver.
To be real the only things left from the old engraver are the laser module and the eleks board, everything  changed :P

The frame size have been expanded by using heavier aluminium sticks (60x30) the engraving area is now 60x44cm
New sides,  re-designer whells with skf bearings, mechanism for fine tuning the slides and whells (it's under) installed japan steppers motors (only y for now), x-asis height can be set using the knob, new belts tension system, 10a psu, and much more!

Today i just started playng  with the machine but it seems to works pretty well.

A big thanks to my friend Andrea who did all this, he's not member of this forum but will join soon.

Most parts have been built with his selfmade CNC machine and artcam.

ps: running with T2 software and soon will try with benculaser since i made this only for cutting things.

General Discussion / 5.5w Laser module
« on: May 02, 2016, 02:36:55 PM »
Hello friends, i just received my second machine with 5.5w laser module.
I also have a 2.5w and im not impressed by the performance of the 5.5w, i can't see much difference.

I think the problem is the psu.
The 5.5w module seems to require about 5A (some sites say 3A) in order to work correcly and the machine is supplied with that cheap 5a (real?) that must also provide power for the steppers.
I have this module:
Tomorrow I install a 15A switching psu also because i am installing better steppers and new pololu drivers.

Will update this post with some results!

Does anyone here swapped the stock psu with a better one?

Trouble Shooting / Dxf and final result are not the same.
« on: April 28, 2016, 04:41:08 AM »
i've designed a square with Inkscape the dimensions are 50x50mm then I exported the file as DXF using this option: (Desktop cutting plotter (AUTOCAD DXF R14))
later I loaded the DXF file in T2 but the result is different, the square is approx 143x143 and not 50x50mm, what i'm doing wrong?

This happen both with T2laser and GRBL

I attach the DXF file.

I think the problem is here, where I can read something to understand steps? if i change these values i get various results:

Grbl Controller / Zero position and dimensions
« on: April 27, 2016, 06:11:18 AM »
Hello again,
i'm trying to lear how to use the machine and I have a bunch of problems!  :)

I created a new project with inkscape set the document proprieties to 100x100mm and designed a shape inside, then i used the J Tech extension to export G-CODE file.
Then I imported the generated G-CODE file in GRBL,  I can see the shape in the visualizer like in the screenshot.

When i run the file the machine move to the corner and motors hit the end, it looks like the dimensions are much bigger  from what i've designed. What I'm doing wrong?
I'm also having difficulties to understand how to set a starting position (zero)

I attach a screenshot and the G-code file generated

The firmware loaded is  grbl 0.8c, for now I want to learn how to control the machine correctly then i will make the PWM mod!

Thank you so much.

T2 Engraving / Cannot install t2 software.
« on: April 26, 2016, 09:18:25 AM »
at begin i've installed T2 version 11e and then read that the stable version is 11j so I wanted to update.

I am having some problems to update the software:

If i  try to install 11j  over 11e the software say that T2 is already installed in another location.

So I unistalled T2 11e cleaned the folder  C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\XXXX restarted the computer and tried to do a clean 11j install but without success:

When the installation is at 100% it doesn't close and don't finish the installation.

When the install of 11j was stuck I force closed "ClickOnce" process and installation windows closed but by clicking T2laser icon it doesn't load or do anything (i can see new process on taks manager)

Do i have to clean the registry or something?  is there any other folder I have to manually clean?

The only version I am able to install is 11e and this only after deleting all T2 traces, cleaning folders, restart etc.

ps: i also tried the 12b same problem install won't finish stuck at 100%.
sometimes i get a message that the application cannot run or installed and to contact the developer.

Running windows 7 64bit.

Sorry for the mess.

Thanks :)

General Discussion / Box construction
« on: April 19, 2016, 12:40:46 PM »
I want to make a wooedn box to put the laser machine inside along with proper air vent.
Since i want to see what's happen inside when the machine is working I want to have a window to see inside.
Do you guys know what kind of material and which caracteristics must have to protect eyes from the laser?
Here: i seen an orange acrylic lid, the benbox machine got green goggles.

Does the color mean something? are these protections coated with somthing special or just the color?

Because i have a big piece of blue acrylyc that i could use to make a lid but I'm not sure if it will protect eyes.

Thanks :)

Benbox / 5.5w laser from Aliexpress software question
« on: April 18, 2016, 09:13:03 AM »
Hello guys, thanks for accepting me in this forum, it looks to be a nice community and the only decent resource around! Great job!

I just bought a 5500mw laser engraver from aliexpress and while I'm still waiting to get it i'm trying  to gather informations about the software.
I bought the machine because I want to cut some thin fabric and from what i've understand the default benbox software is a little crappy, since I am not intersted in engraving anything but just CUT, what kind of software can you suggest me?

From the description of the machine I bought there's no reference to G-code, GRBL just benbox.
Does this mean that my board will only works with Benbox? Can i use/load alternative firmwares?

I've tried to read some posts here but i'm little in confusion, sorry for so many questions but I'm absolutely new in this :)

This is the machine i ordered:

Thanks! (I apologize for my cheap english I am Italian)
