I'll leave that to the experts, I don't even know what an AVR board is, but I'm guessing its an Arduino board of some kind as opposed to a custom board. I'm more included to leave alone those things that are working and that I do not understand very well. I'm sure someone on here can answer your question if they happen to see it.

Have you looked at the wheels?  Mine A5 is several years old and when working on it I noticed the grease in the bearings had gotten sticky and didn't turn smoothly and freely as it did originally.  I'm going to clean and oil those bearings and see if it helps on mine.

To my surprise it solved the problem for the most part doing nothing more than switching the two modules. I ordered a few new A4988 driver modules and will experiment with those too.

Yes, one on the X and two on the Y. Its an old Eleksmaker A5, the small one.

This question is probably best answered by Zax, but anyone that knows the answer will be great.

I just purchased a new TT2.5 laser kit from TwoTrees.
Got a $94 dollar deal so why not upgrade my old stuttering A5, am I right?
This came with a board that doesn't use a Arduino Nano like my last board, it says its an MKS LKS board.  I assume all the "brains" are built into it and it claims to work with GRBL and LightBurn software.

I only have the one Nano based board which is several years old and I'm not familar with the newer boards. I haven't tinkered with it in a long time, I just use it and it works.
If it will allow me to overwrite the GRBL version, would you guys upload the T2 version of GRBL as well? Or just go with the version they have installed? ie leave well enough alone.
I'm apprehensive to start overwriting the GRBL that came with it without sufficient knowledge of what I'm doing.  If left to my own devices I can screw up anything.
I haven't tested it yet, haven't even put it together as it just arrived.  I'm assuming T2 will run just fine, I thought I'd just ask before I get there.

I did not do that. I'm not sure how to measure the current sent of the motors nor do I know what parameters I'd be looking for anyway.
I can stick a voltage meter in an outlet or between point A and point B for voltage, but not sure how to measure current on micro-electronics. 

Based on that fact, you stated, which makes sense,  I would assume that the driver for my X axis was overdriving because it was heavily stuttering and sezing on that axis, but when I switched it and put it on the Y1/Y2 axis, its much better behaved, very little stuttering.  What would cause it to start over driving for no reason at all? I haven't done anything.

I'll update my own post here.  I switch the two driver boards, x to y1/y2.  Now it works better, its still stuttering but much less.  The  driver moved from my x to my y was obviously the problem and for the life of me I can't understand how switching to on the board makes any difference, but it is functioning better for some reason.  Moving it from driving a single motor to driving two motors would make it worse not better you'd think. Oh well, its good for spare parts I guess.

its been awhile since I dropped in here, looks like I can say the same for others too.

Anyway, just in case anyone is still monitoring, I have a stuttering motors question.
I tripped over my usb cable, darn near ripped it out, but it kept working yesterday.  Today, its stuttering bad in certain places and sometimes just seizes and stutters.  From what I've read it would appear  this is probably a board problem.  Can you actually damage the motors themselves?  I have moved the gantry some while everything was plugged in, I also know that is a no-no too.

Anyway, its an old small Eleksmaker so I'm sure I'll have to get a new model driver board, any suggestions?  cheap, inexpensive, low-cost, good enough?

btw, I ordered a new Two Tree TT-5.5 for Cyber-Monday to replace it, but I'd like to keep this one running too.

Its always in the fine print.  I figured it was an over driven lower wattage diode.

I saw this on Gearbox, curious if anyone else has information regarding it or tried one.  Comes in 7,15, & 20 watt versions.  ???

I haven't heard of any solid state lasers with that much power, is this possible or is this just over driven lower wattage diodes?

I think I do have a small hobby tap somewhere. If I can find it, I will see if I can do it. 

Well, here we go again, with my TTL laser upgrade.  After a long discussion regarding the wiring and obtaining the TTL signal, I go to mount the laser and it doesn't fit the mount. I know, I'm going at this assbackwards, I should have checked the fit first.

Anyway, the new laser is larger and the mounting holes are not in the same position on the mount.    Before I go making a new mount,  I thought I'd pass it by you guys. It seems simple hobby grade plywood would be the easiest and least expensive to make a new mount.  I guess if could find some acrylic sheeting, and if could find a fab lab with a large laser to cut it, but that seems like a lot of trouble and expense for a laser mount. My only concern with making it myself is the precise of drilling holes vs. laser cutting holes. 

Would you just make another mount, try to modify the one i have, or do you know a good parts supplier, where I might find one that would fit this laser? When I purchased the laser unit I forgot about the Chinese and their use of standards.
