Cura 2.6
« on: June 21, 2017, 10:49:32 AM »
Cura 2.6 was released officially yesterday. Still downloading, (the servers must be being hammered, it reckons 2 hours to download 100Meg, 1 hours left for 50MB) but since I built a foundry yesterday and melted my first aluminium not 4 hours ago, excited  to hear it has a mould making extension for making castings

:) :) :)   <-- thats how happy I am

Blog post, might as well have a read at this dl speed. https://ultimaker.com/en/blog/49795-introducing-cura-26

taken 5 minutes for the last megabyte, I am up to 82/95 and it reckons 10 minutes.

I sort of wish I had started with a multithread file downloader cause this keeps stalling and I reckon its going to fall apart at any second..

I heard they have a speed limit on download to Australia. Some nut down there keeps hogging all the bandwidth.

Probably ..

Hey mold mode works ok, very simple, basically does the opposite of printing your object and just puts a skin around it, very cool.
I am not sure how useful with hot metal thinking about it, you could sand case the normal object but obviously a mold is not going to be useful in plastic.
So you could use the mold function to make a plastic mold you could then fill with say plaster, but then you are back to having a positive and would need to make a cast of it, which you may as well do with plastic.
So I guess it is more useful for making soaps or wax or silicon type things.

attached 2 pics, same doohickey in mold mode and normal mode. This is the pen holder I just printed.
