Engraving TIP for clean lines
« on: August 06, 2017, 09:41:29 AM »
My laser sits atop a piece of foam board. I pressed the corners of the assembly down to make small indents that hold the whole thing in place.

By accident I focused the laser to top side of the foam board.
Placed US $0.05 nickles on the foam board.
Placed material to be cut on top of the nickles.

I started to cut, then remembered I did not focus the laser the material. Let job continue, and the results where nice. I was able to cut through 3mm craft plywood @ 550speed, 255 laserpower using T2 6 to 8 passes no air assist.

I experimented with the laser ficused to the top of the material and I did not like the results.

Special thanks to nottingham for sharing his tip on keeping the material elevated; which allows the gasses to escape through the underside of the material.

Sounds like a powerful laser! What wattage do you have? I might have to try something like that. Try and focus the laser to the middle of the wood instead the top

Nice. My 2.5w takes around 8 passes @100 to go through 3mm ply
