DIY laser solid burning only. Connections on Mother board
« on: October 27, 2018, 12:26:31 PM »
Hi.

Just bought a Chinese diy laser, next to no instructions so I’m just picking up different info from different web sites.

I have a couple of issues.

1 I have two 2pin sockets on the MB on says laser but if I plug the laser in here I can move the head X Y from the program but the laser doesn’t work. If I use the other socket the laser works but is constant.

2 the first couple of tests were ok but now I’m only getting solid black. I did read the second switch on the MB is low beam and should only be switched on for a max 30mins it had been on longer when I read it.

Post links or pictures of the controller board and laser module, also what firmware are you using?

It’s possible the MOSFET has shorted due to overheating but if it never worked right it’s just as likely you don’t have it setup correctly.

The outer 2 pin connector should be always on, that’s designed for a fan. The next connector with 3 pins is the laser output, it has 12V and TTL signal, then the next 2 pin is a PWM switched output for a motor or 2 wire laser (non-TTL).

I can’t tell from the picture of the laser module if that’s a 2 or 3 wire model.

You need to be using Grbl 0.9 or higher with that board. I would recommend 1.1 as it has better performance.

Zax.

The laser is 2 wire.

Are you using T2Laser and my default Grbl 1.1e firmware?

Hi Zax.

You are speaking to a complete newbie as far as laser engravers go.
I’ve attached an image of the laser. We are using lx.hex

My Daughter bought the laser on eBay and the disc enclosed was broken in half (how does that happen) and the paper instructions are let’s say very limited. Can we run GRBL 1.1 on Benbox or do we need to use GRBL software?

Thanks.

Benbox is very old and only works with their custom Grbl 0.8, there no support for it. That’s why I asked if you were using T2Laser and my default Grbl 1.1e firmware, I think you’ll find it just works.
