Feature request
« on: September 24, 2019, 05:46:28 PM »
Been awhile since I found something that I wanted t2 to do that it was difficult to make happen.  So lately Ive been doing 2 passes.  first pass horizontal and the second one diagonal. To do this I generate both g codes and save them.  I keep hold position on (otherwise it has a tenancy to move ever so slightly between jobs).  I load 1 gcode, engrave, then load the second gcode and engrave.  Being able to generate 2 passes with different directions would be nice.  I can keep using my work around of loading each job separately but an auto generation would be cool.

That's an odd request ;D

Why are you doing both diagonal and horizontal, I've never heard or needed to do that. Is it to mask a mechanical issue?

I would think the result would be very dark, or do you set feed rate higher - I must try this now.

I have started doing white ceramic tiles using the Nicky Norton technique. Have you heard of it?  It's weird for some reason painting ceramic flat white generates a black permanent Mark which can't be scraped off.  But I found at least in my tests that the engraving has horizontal lines. When I do a second pass diagonal it cleans up the engraving quite a bit. I guess I could just try defocusing or upping the resolution but for some reason this technique is very sensitive to speed changes and multiple passes aren't automatically better. It is weird.

I haven't but it does sound interesting.

The problem with multi-pass on raster (which is what you need) is the files can get out of hand really fast, to do this I would probably need to save the G-code and run the sender from file which is not ideal for many reasons. Let me look into it but no promises.

Yeah that was my only thought on why it wouldnt work is that the file and computing might get to be too much.  For now I have a work around.  hopefully i'll have a new product line soon.  Still perfecting it.

Nottingham - You know that you can generate both gcode files and paste one at the beginning/end of the other, then load it and it will do both without stopping in the middle?  It will go back to home in between, but it gets you out of having to load the second file.

Yes, I'm aware. However, that would only save time if I engrave that design more than once. Most of my projects are one offs. Hence why I asked for a one button solution.

That sounds intriguing. Be keen to see pics if you have any.
