crazy new laser and crazy me

Hello guys
I was trying the new TTL laser and the first 2 days I was able to make beautiful images on non-stained wood while on stained wood it had a golden effect.
on the third day I tried for 2 hours to cut 3mm of birch, without success.
after this (the images circled in blue) the laser was no longer able to burn on unstained wood while it became capable of burning stained wood.

Did something become lose? Focus adjust?  Perhaps you could try some simple test patterns in g-code such as a small square with a known speed and laser intensity. 

I have had very poor success cutting 3mm woods with a 2.5W diode. Need to run very slow and have a strong air stream to extinguish any flames. If the wood contains oils they often form a crust that the laser can't touch.

first it burned on non-stained wood (s1 / 255 f3500), after the cutting test it burns on stained wood (s70 / 140 f3500).
there is a lot of setup difference and the effect on the wood as well, from very light before to very dark after.
and before good image only on non stained wood and after only on stained wood.
the focus is ok.
my fear is that about 2 hours at maximum power have damaged the laser module.

I use birch laserply panels
I have successfully cut a 10mm square, the test with a5 design has failed, but this is not really a big problem, I use the laser to burn.

What power is the laser? Are you cutting with feedrates of 3500mm/min?

i tried to cut at f100 s255

Does the etch look better at f2000. I suspect my 2.5W is failing as I now need much lower speeds.

Try cleaning the lens with Isopropyl Alcohol. I suspect the stain was oil based and is coating the lens causing refraction.
